This is the "Silver Age" version of Heroic and the coloring style is meant to look like an old 70's style comic. Big Announcement Teaser!

There will be a HUGE announcement soon regarding the original project myself and Mike Hall have been working on with/for Viper Comics. I thought it would be fun to post a teaser image, especially for all my fellow long time followers.

This project means more to me than any other project I've ever been a part of creating. Why? Because after 29 years on this earth, I've FINALLY gotten an original project signed and ready to be released for everyone to enjoy. Ever since I picked up my first comic book, I've wanted to create my own characters, story and property. I owe so much to my friend, colleague and collaborater, Mike Hall. Without him writing and co-creating with me on this project, it would have never happened. Also, none of this would be possible without the amazing Jessie Garza over at Viper Comics and our editors Gwen and Dale. They believed in this project, and let Mike and I create this unique comic book. I can promise you guys this is like nothing you've seen from me, and it's like nothing that is on the comic book stands right now.

Okay, off my soap box for now. I'll be back once the announcement is made to spread the word. Thank you for looking. It means the world to me to have friends, fans and family supporting this venture.

31 Faces of Halloween sneak peek!

So you may or may not have heard...I'm attempting to release my first digital sketch book of sorts. It's a Halloween themed picture book, featuring 31 different portraits/faces of characters you might find roaming the desolate streets during October. It will be available October 1st and I'm hoping will be no more than .99 cents. This is my first time doing the digital thing, so we'll see how it works out. I did this for myself more than anything. I love Halloween, and this time of year in general, so this is my homage of sorts to Halloween. Just something for fun that I hope everyone else enjoys and treasures as much as I do.

Qwakar: The Duckbarian! It started out as just a sketch, but it's progressing into much more. Keep your eyes peeled for this guy in the near future...til then, i hope you enjoy this image. He came about from 2 simple thoughts I had...1, most cartoons I enjoyed as a kid had ducks in them (Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, etc...) and 2, I was thinking about the Conan the Barbarian reboot movie. Doc Oc "The Chase" finished!

I took a few minutes to shade the flats and finish this one up. I hope you all dig it! I really enjoyed working this way. It kept things exciting. There was something changing and evolving in the picture every step of the way, and I think I kept the action/drama in the line art....those were my hopes anyway ;)

Okay, Drop Dead Evil reboot is a go. This is page 2. Give it a read. This version of D.D.E. will feature single page stories, sometimes I might to a double page spread. The idea is you get all that you need to tell the story in one page, like a serial comic strip. It will not always be a four panel page. That will change, I might have 20 panels, I might have 1. I hope you all enjoy this new version of DDE. My main goal is to entertain and give you a laugh or two and have fun creating. That is why I got into comics. I love creating them, and I want to ensure I continue to love to create and bring fans the best product I can produce.

Drop Dead Evil is BACK! 200th post

Is it coincidence that this is my 200th blog post? I don't know. Could be a sign of the aflockalypse or maybe just that...Drop Dead Evil is coming back!

A few years back I had this idea for a comic book called, "Drop Dead Evil". I got a lot of work completed on the project, pitched it around, but I didn't get many bites. I've had time to think a lot while working on projects for other clients, and I want to bring Drop Dead Evil BACK! It's going to be a bit different, and I'm doing it all free, all digital all the time. I'll upload the pages, etc...for everyone to check out. Once a first issue is complete, i will make it available as a digital book for people to download. If you like it, buy it, help support me, and I'll keep making more. The digital age is going to revolutionize the way creators can bring material straight to the viewers. Let's do it right!

So, for your viewing pleasure, the new "Drop Dead Evil" logo. I wanted it to be like a patch you would get sown on a jacket or something to that effect. Plus, you can't go wrong with circle shapes. I hope you all enjoy. Much more coming soon including a Facebook page, etc...

Wicked splash page sketch

I went to see "Wicked" for the first time with my wife this past week. It was absolutely amazing! I'm pretty sure the costume and set designers were way into Steampunk too. Lots of cool gears, robotics, etc...featured in the show. I wanted to draw up a splash page for fun. I hope to finish this out in the near future along with everything else in my "to finish" pile.

Mario VS. Bowser pencils

The pencils are a little loose, and I still have some corrections to make in the inking/coloring stage, like the scale on Toad...but all that being said, here are the humble lines for what will make up a splash page of awesomeness.

Part of the reason behind this pic is if I had a time machine and my past self met my present self my past self would say..."Dude! You can finally draw decent...why aren't you drawing cool stuff like Mario and Zelda and Thundercats!?" and my present self would say, "Well, I have to work all the time, drawing stuff for other people so I can pay bills"...then my present self would sob uncontrollably, lol. What I'm saying is, time to do some stuff for Dustin for a change. More stuff, news, projects on the way!

Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th artwork completed

This is the final and complete version of the Jason Voorhees artwork. I did not want to kill the image with colors that are overdone and in your face, but at the same time I wanted to add something to the image. I focused on bringing Jason out by pushing the background elements back, and I added some fire FX and highlights as well. You have to know when to pull back on those coloring reigns whether it's your own artwork or another persons you're coloring. Hope you all like the finished product. Creeper sketch

I was trying to sleep last night, and this crazy guy popped in my head. I was able to remember the image, so I sketched him up this morning. For some reason, drawing old, creepy dudes is just fun. Am I right?! Anywho, I'll toss this in the pile of "to finish" sketches. Lately I've been very creatively and artistically charged. I can't explain it, but I'm going to ride this wave of productivity and get some things finished up that I've neglected. Sometimes not working on something while you're in a funk is for the better. The funk has lifted, and I'm emerging like Rambo out of the water, pencil clenched in teeth, ready to draw!
